Spivey Hall, located on the campus of Clayton State University, is a 400-seat, acoustically-superior performing arts venue that has presented the best in jazz and classical music to the metro Atlanta area since 1991. Its celebrated concert series receives regular national and international attention as one of America’s finest, and the Hall’s acoustics and design are routinely lauded by patrons, pundits and performers.
Design Objectives
- Make the performers the "Stars" of the website.
- Provide multiple search options for a patron to locate a performance.
- Integrate a shopping cart for ticket purchasing.
- Establish a clear distinction between Concert and Educational performances.
- Install a Content Management System so the Spivey staff can post upcoming events quickly to the website.

Visual ThemeSpivey Hall has a reputation as a classical concert hall so we styled the visual theme of the website after the sensual shape of a grand piano.
Content Management
We choose Wordpress for the Content Management System and programmed text input fields for the Spivey staff to upload Artist profiles, concert dates and times, ticket information, special messages on the homepage, a concert hall seating chart, and much more.
Featured Artist Photo Window
To create a great first impression of the range of talented performers at Spivey Hall, we built a dissolving photo panel on the homepage that rotates images of featured Artist. The line-up is posted by the Spivey staff from within the content management system and each photo is linked to more information about the Artist.
Performance Slider
On the hompeage and sub-pages, we embedded a horizontal scrolling window, called a Performance Slider, that displays thumbnail photos of each performance of the concert season. A patron can quickly browse the line-up without having to scroll down the page. Clicking on an Artist displays details about the performance with the option to purchase tickets.
Event Calendar
For those patrons who wish to plan their visit to Spivey Hall around days of the month, we have an Event Calendar. Performance dates in the calendar are highlighted and upon rollover display a floating panel with details about the performance. The calendar has interactivity to advance to any month of the year as well as functionality to sort between what is a concert event and an educational event.
Advanced Search Filter
For the Educational department at Spivey Hall, an advanced search filter was programmed so Teachers can narrow their search by cross-referencing performances by date, grade level, program types and curricula. The filtered search results show precisely the performance that matches the child's interest and skill level.
Upcoming and Future Performances
Promoting upcoming and future performances is top-of-mind at Spivey Hall so we programmed the content management system to always display the next 4 upcoming performances on the default page when Concerts is selected from the main navigation. Once a patron clicks through to the details then at the bottom of the page are shown future performances recommended by Spivey Hall.
